About The project

TV Evangelist, Reverend Earl Smith, touches the hearts of thousands of Americans every Sunday morning on his publicly sponsored show, One Way Ticket to Jesus. He teaches his viewers about faith, love and service in the name of Jesus Christ. The Reverend spreads the word of the Gospel and summons miracles on the air, but not for free. Everyone must pay a price for salvation… and the Reverend Earl Smith is collecting the fees.

When the Sunday morning viewers buy their “one way ticket to Jesus”, what they are really doing is helping Joe Damonti pay off his gambling debts. Joe Damonti has a serious gambling addiction and he lost his wife and son because of it. He’s also got the Las Vegas Mob ready to pay him a visit. Desperate to win his family back and get the Mob out of his hair, Joe dons the fictitious identity of Reverend Earl Smith and tries to raise money in the name of Christ, promising his audience that they will spend eternity in Paradise with Jesus, himself.

Damonti, failing in his attempt to collect the money he owes, is forced to face the Mob-just as he is about to leave Vegas and check himself into Gambler’s Anonymous! With a zany twist occurring during the confrontation between himself and the hit-man who shows up at his apartment, Joe is handed his own “one way ticket to Jesus” and the Reverend Earl Smith must live up to his promises.

Actor/producer Tim Brandt has teamed up with writer/director Gina Robertson to develop this exciting one-man-play, THE PREACHER.

Gina Robertson

Gina completed the Hollywood Film Institute Filmmaker Track certificate program in 1999 and has been coaching and directing actors on stage for ten years independently and with the Northwest Actors Studio in Seattle. Robertson has worked as an Assistant Director on 3 feature films, produced 2 stage plays and completed two feature length screenplays. Gina is a single mom, raising her seven year old daughter by working full time as a Project Coordinator for a non-profit organization dedicated to snow leopard conservation by day and a screenwriter/filmmaker by night!

Robertson was born and raised in a theatrical family in New York City until, as a teenager, her mother moved to California She then spent most of her teenage and young adult years bouncing back and forth between coasts and parents. "Writing, and dancing became the two channels that balanced out the chaos of living between two very different worlds. Writing gave me an escape, a way to a unified place that combined all the moving parts of my mental and emotional life. Dancing gave me emotional expression. They are the same crutches I depend on today - and working with actors simply makes me high."
